I have read that Sir Newton was a believer, but I had no idea that he was into prophecy. The article doesn't mention why he chose the foundation of the Holy Roman Empire to start his calculations. I've heard of people using the return of Jews to Israel (1948) to calculate such things.

I remember a book came out for 88 reasons why Christ would return in 1988.

I know the Bible says that no man knows that day and that it will come like a thief in the night. The important thing is to be ready for Christ's return (either the second coming or death, whichever comes first).

The one thing I'm wondering is if they were illegal immigrants. The article did describe them as hispanic, but did not report on their legal status. I guess our cities are sanctuary cities also. It's amazing to me that we do not have the guts to enforce our laws (if they were illegal).

Ipod Rant

I could not believe my eyes this afternoon. I was being my dad's favorite son, and took him to Sogo's. Kristy, Mom, Dad, and I were joined at the table by another family (this is common at Sogo's, a Japanese Steakhouse). The family sat down across from us, and the man was my age (He looked familar, and I may have went to school with him).

He had just sat down, and then I noticed that he put the earbud headphones that come with your ipod in. I could not believe what I was witnessing. He was not a teenager, a child, etc, but an adult male with his ipod out at Sogo's. I was shocked and thought that was as rude as a cell phone going off in church, movies, etc. The son had to get his attention so his wife could ask him a question. It was unbelievable to me.

I know we live in an incredible age of technology, but I believe that when you are eating with people, they should be the focus of your attention. If you disagree, please let me know.

Is it just me, but all this talk and blaming stuff on Global Warming is hilarious. I find it funny that we think we can actually control the creation that God created. If you look at history, there have been times of warming and cooling in the past. Does anyone remember the first european in America? It was actually a Viking named:

We Miss You, Pres. Reagan

It was three years ago today that you passed away. You are surely missed by many Americans and we wonder if we will ever have a President as great as you. Since your Presidency, we have had two Bushes and one Clinton (and it looks like another one in 08). They have not come anywhere to your greatness.

Reagan was President when I was 14-22 (which are probably some of the most important years of anyone's life). Reagan was the reason that I became a Republican when I turned 18. He was a strong President and looked probably even stronger since he followed Jimmy Carter (the worse President ever). The day he was inaugurated, the hostages were released from Iran (we're still having problems with those people) and that help to usher in an era of being Proud to be an American again. Reagan stood up to the Soviet Union and would eventually win the Cold War (Putin looks like he wants to start it up again).

Reagan had personality and even as a teenager, I remember watching his press conferences and they were very entertaining. He was known as the great communicator. He did have a special gift to communicate even to young people. He did have his critics but it seemed that that was done in a more polite manner than today. It's amazing to think how much things have changed since the 80's when it comes to how we get information. You did not have the internet, 24 hours new channels (CNN was just starting, but that was the only one), conservative talk radio, and blogging. It was truly a primitive time.

I find it ironic that the Republicans have their second debate tonight and I'm sure they will try to compare themselves to Reagan (the first debate did come from his library underneath Air Force One). I'm afraid that I don't see a Reagan in this crowd, and with the things that "W" is doing now, I wonder if I even want to stay a Republican. I know I will not become a "donkey" but I'm afraid the Republicans will not find another Reagan anytime soon, and that's sad.

Coliseum prepped for Sunday implosion.

Wow, it is an end of an era. I know that many of you have some great memories in that building. I'll never forget attending the very first event in the Charlotte Coliseum in 1988. The building was dedicated on a Thursday night and Billy Graham was the guest of honor. I remember going to work that morning and hearing that the new scoreboard (which was "state of the art in 88) had crashed to the floor. It was shocking and I had tickets to go to see a basketball game of player trying out for the USA Olympic Team that year.

The game was stilled played that night, but they had to bring the floor of the earlier coliseum (which was a ugly orange court) and was place in the coliseum. The new coliseum was basically teal in color scheme (in honor of the Hornets, that would begin playing a few months later). I remember fans wearing hard hats and umbrellas to protect them from anything else falling on their heads. It was a great night.

I've attended a few of the Charlotte Hornets games in that building and will never forget seeing Reggie Miller for the Pacers go off for over 40 points one night. He was unstoppable.

I attended Duke games when they came to play Davidson and the NCAA Tournament 1st and 2nd round games. It was always a lot of fun to see the greatest college basketball program take the court. I remember watching the final four practices in 1994 (the last time the final four was played in a traditional basketball arena). It was a great weekend, until Duke would lose to Arkansas in the title game on a lucky 3 point shot. Disgusting!!!

I will never forget seeing the greatest band on the planet, U2 in 2001. It was the best show that I've ever attended and I've seen them 3 times. It was their second show of the "All That You Cant Leave Behind" tour, so they were fresh and the show was incredible. There is nothing like seeing "Where the Streets Have No Name" and "Bullet the Blue Sky" in person. Amazing.

I know that some of you will think I'm crazy, but I love Hurricane Season. I never wish for any Katrina type storms, but smaller hurricanes are cool (IMO). I will never forget going through Hurricane Erin in 1996 in Pensacola, Florida. It was a small category one, and the eye came over the dorm we were staying in at Pensacola Christian College. It was awesome, once again, IMO.

Confession

I have some shocking news to confess to all my friends. I know that this could change your opinion of me for years to come. There is a part of me that said I should keep this secret, but after the events this afternoon, it's tine to confess.

Once again, I hope that this will not change your opinion of me, but that will be up to you.

The confession that I need to share with y'all is that "I'm getting old". I know that is shocking to many of you, but I met Josh Shepard to play bball today at the Kannapolis YMCA. He did sweep me 4 games to none (even if I had a shot to winb game 3). After beating him in horse, we went to the raquetball court. This is where I learned that I'm old and needed to confess.

I've played tennis 1000's of times in the past, and sprinted to the net to hit a winner. As I was running this time to hit a winner, I felt a rip in my right leg for the first time in 40 years. I've pulled my hamstring and I'm laying here in pain.

I know that it comes as a shock that I'm getting older, but I felt that I needed to let you all know.

Dreaming of Cedar Point 2007

It's Memorial Day weekend, and it's the time of year that I start thinking about Amusement Parks. I know that many of you know that I can get obsessed with Cedar Point, but it's the greatest park on the planet.

It's a park that brings back many great memories for me. In 2000, I first visited Cedar Point on my honeymoon. It was in July and was the year that Millenium Force open. I remember waiting almost 2 hours to ride "M Force". It's still the greatest coaster IMO.

In 2002, I went back in the fall for their Halloweekends. It's the best time of year to go, since the weather is cool. It can be down right cold, just ask Josh Parrish who went to the park without his coat (what a loser :-) ) Parrish, Martin, and MattFord were the ones who went with me on that trip. Wicked Twister was the new coaster that year, but they were in the process of building something very special. We could see the steel reaching about 200 feet high (but did not know it would eventually reach 420feet).



In 2004, I again returned to the POINT with Nathan Wrights, Christopher Wingler, and Woodchuck. The ride that I went for was that one they were building in 02, Top Thrill Dragster. It's a pure adrenaline rush. Wingler and Woodchuck decided to not ride it during the trip, but Nathan and I conquered the ride.

In 2006, I returned to OHIO with Bradley and Parrish for his second trip. We all rode Dragster and all the other great rides. They were in the process of building a new coaster, Maverick which opens today.

I know that I have a history of going every other year, but I'm planning on breaking that tradition sometime this year. I just haven't got the trip completely planned out this year, but I hope to go back real soon.

I know it's a little early to be feeding the dogs, but I will be returning from Atlanta late tonight. Kristy has to attend a pre-school graduation ceremony for Kids Korner tonight

I don't understand the purpose of all of these graduaton ceremonies before 12th grade. All of the years at TTCS and NKCA, I always thought that it was just a conspiracy for the makers of caps and gowns.

What will graduating from pre school, kindergarten, or even 5th grade get you? NOTHING!!! I don't believe in any of my job interviews that they asked if + graduated from Pre K, Kindergarten, etc.

So, as we enter graduation season, I hope you enjoy all of the "Pomp and Circumstances".

A great read on the best show on TV!!!

I thought last night's episodes were very intense. The tension of executing the hostages reminded me of the time when jack was in prison and playing russian roulette for the amount of tension. I did not believe they were going to kill derrick (i think that is Jack's "son"), but i dont think he looks like a 15 year old. Chloe continues to rule CTU and it's good to see that she is still the "smartest woman alive".

Mrs. Logan is quite interesting. It seems that President Logan doesn't respect her and he treats her terribly. I hope that mole with the President doesnt survive much longer. He's already getting on my nerves and he needs to be stopped.

I'm surprised that there is a supply of nerve gas within about 10 minutes of that airport. I do have a question, the hostage that was given the "key" to the nerve gas, wasnt he the one they grabbed for a moment to be executed by one of the terrorist. I guess everyone of the terrorist's knew what was going on, as usual.

I love the back to back episodes but now we have to wait a whole week between episodes for the remainder of the season. I know in March, when Prison Break returns, Monday night will be the new "Must See TV" night the way NBC was on Thursday in the 90's.

I hope this is a good sign for the Silence of the Rams in 21 Days!!! It's a shame they did not reach their goal by $20,000, but maybe K or Roy will kick in a few $$$'s.

New Orleans Mayor Says God Mad at U.S.

I believe that the mayor makes some interesting points. The Old Testament does speak of God judging nations for their actions with natural diasater, but it also tells us in the New Testament that these things would be signs of His Second Coming. I guess the question I have is are the diasters in the U.S. and around the world the punishment of God as in the OT or are Signs of the 2nd coming. I think that I feel that these events are more likely Signs instead of Old Testament judgements. I guess that should challenge us to live our lives in expectation of His coming.

I know that it has been a long time since i've last blogged. It was way back on Oct. 31. The majority of you know that since that time, Kristy has been dealing with very severe headaches. She spent 29 days in November in the hospital. She spent 3 days in December in the hospital also. Kristy is still having some very bad headaches, but things are slowly getting back to normal.

24 is BACK! I'm very angry that they killed off President Palmer and Michelle. That was just WRONG! I had read online that it was going to happen, but I thought maybe they would not do it. I was wrong on that one :( It was good and tonight's episode looks really intense. I was also glad that Kim was nowhere to be seen :) I cant stand President Logan. He is completely opposite from President Palmer. Logan is just a wimp. I know they did not mention it, but did the President on Air Force One that was shot down 18 months earlier die??? Logan was the Vice President and only took over while the other one was injured. There's no way that we would elect that wimp, so I assume that the president did die in the Air Force One crash last season.

It sure is awesome to have the bell home!!! At least the bell had only one year in captivity this time. The other good news is that Anson County lost last night, so all Brown has to do is beat Parkwood and Piedmont and we will have at least a share of the SPC Championship. Let's Go WONDERS!!!

The game was a lot of fun. Jeremy, Bradley, and I got there around 6:00pm. You have to go early to get a good seat, or the area where I like to sit (behind the band). Darel came about 30 minutes later, and he was a joyful as always. I really felt bad for the cell phone, it didn't deserve that abuse. I also got to see or talk to many of the old Pioneers, Nathan Wrights, Chris Wingler, Brandon Tipton, Brandon Strickland, Joel Yow, Woodchuck, MattFord (who was on the losing team's side).

It sounds like they need some better equipment, which can help to rebuild a city that is below sea level (that makes no sense to rebuild on a flood plain again).

I'm disappointed in the picks for the courts, especially this one. I hate to agree with Pat Buchanan, but she doesn't sound like the best choice, just one that the Democrats will support. The election of 2004 seems like a wasted opportunity now.

I'm Back

I know that I've not been posting for the past few months. I've been busy with a few things. First, the few weeks after Katrina, I was busy reading and watching all the TV stuff on the Hurricane. It was really strange to be watching history in the making during Katrina. As many of you know, I've always been fascinated, or maybe obsessed with Hurricanes. It was truly amazing and I hope that we continue to keep those people in our prayers and continue to support them with $$$ to your favorite charity.
Second, the middle of September, I was working on completing my second seminary class. I was having to write 2 papers, and take a final exam for my Church History class. I have completed 2 classes, 28 to go. I have 2 months left in my Christian Ethics class, so I have a lot of work to do in the next few weeks.
