NC issues most severe air pollution warning ever down East!

I had to run a route today for SunPet, and I could not believe how bad the smoke was down there. I had to deliver to Raleigh, Rocky Mt, Plymouth, and Greenville. Greenville was terrible. There was so much smoke, you could only see for about 1/4 (or quarter) mile. I can not believe how much trouble people with asthma and other breathing diseases must be experiencing. It was making my eyes burn. The only good thing you could have said about the smoke was that it kept the temperatures down since even the sunshine had trouble getting through the smoke.

Thunderstorms could mark end to record heat

I guess the only good thing about this heat wave is that it's been more of a "dry" heat. We have not had the July and August humidity and dewpoints.

Gas Hits National Average of $4 for the First Time!

Ok, enough is enough. It's time to drill for oil in the USA. I get so upset when I hear the Democrats and Republicans who were demanding that Saudi Arabia and other OPEC nations to increase production, when they want let us do the same here in the good ole USA. We have allowed the environmentalist, global warming idiots control our policy on energy that we now have this situation of $4.00 gas. The bad news is that both Obama and McCain are not for drilling so it looks like we will all have to suffer. The gas prices has already cost me one day of work (I'm only working 3 days a week) and I know it is causing others to suffer.

Good Times: 'Ain't We Lucky We Got 'Em'

This is a great article on the 70's hit, Good Times. I was very young at the time, but I remember watching the show every week. The article deals with a lot of social issues that Good Times tackle, and compares how african-americans are portrayed today verses the classic show, Good Times. The article does leave out one important cast member, Janet Jackson. She was the neighbor girl a few years into the show.

UNC's Lawson charged with driving after drinking alcohol!

That's really too bad (LOL). I guess he's just getting ready to join that long line of drunk point guards at unc. Phil Ford, Jeff McGunnis, and now Ty Lawson.

Smile

First Cut is the Deepest!

Once upon a time, two little boys, Sammy and Tim, were sharing a room in the hospital. As they were getting to know each other a little bit, Sammy eventually asked Tim, "Hey, what're you in for?"

"I'm getting my tonsils out. I'm a little worried," said Tim.

"Oh, don't worry about it," Sammy said. "I had my tonsils out and it was a blast! I got to eat all the ice cream and Jell-O I wanted for two weeks!"

"Oh yeah?'' replied Tim. "That's not half-bad. So, Sammy, how about you? What're you here for?"

"I'm getting a circumcision, whatever that is," Sammy answered.

"Oh my god, circumcision? I got one of those when I was a baby and I couldn't walk for two years!"

Born between 1920-1979

THOSE BORN 1920-1979

TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED the 1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!!

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank whie they were pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing, tuna from a can, and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As infants &children, we would ride in cars with no car seats, booster seats, seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bot tle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, white bread and real butter and drank Kool-aid made with sugar, but we weren't overweight because,

WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day.And we were OK.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 150 channels on cable, no video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's, no cell phones, no personal computer! s, no Internet or chat rooms.......

WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt, and the worms did not live in us forever.

We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays, made up games with sticks and tennis balls and, although we were told it would happen, we did not poke out very many eyes.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

These generations have produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

If YOU are one of them CONGRATULATIONS!

Confederate group plans giant flag in Hillsborough County - St. Petersburg Times

This photo is from a movie called CSA about what it would have been like if the South won the War of Northern Agression! It's actually a movie that Spike Lee was involved, so it's not a movie by any KKK group.

The movie is not worth watching, though. I would have to give it 2 thumbs down for a review.

Hurricane season outlooks of little use!

I love Hurricane season, and I know many of you think I'm crazy. I still have memories of Hugo and Hurricane Erin (Pensacola in 95 or 96). I was there and got to experience the eye of a Hurricane (90mph storm). It was awesome.
